Our Story

Arbutus Collective started with a simple observation: Vancouver Island is home to exceptional independent chefs, sommeliers, and bartenders — talented people who deserve the flexibility to work on their own terms, and clients who deserve direct access to that talent without having to find, vet, and coordinate it all themselves. So we built the bridge between the two.

Today, we connect hosts across Greater Victoria and the South Island with a curated team of culinary and beverage professionals. We handle the details: matching, quoting, logistics, and coordination. Our team handles the craft. The result is private dining that feels personal, considered, and genuinely local, every time.

Our Culinary Background

Our culinary background is rooted in a love for food that tells a story. We draw from classic culinary traditions, modern technique, and the places and people that have shaped the way we cook. At the heart of our approach is the belief that great food doesn’t always need to be complicated—it needs to be thoughtful, well executed, and made with purpose.

We have a particular appreciation for soul and comfort food: the dishes that feel familiar, generous, and deeply satisfying. These are the foods that bring people back to a place, a memory, or a feeling—the roast that reminds you of Sunday dinner, the sauce that takes hours to make, or a perfectly crisp pizza shared around a table with friends. We believe there is something special about food that feels like home, and we aim to bring that same warmth and character into everything we serve.

Our menus balance this sense of comfort with a refined culinary perspective. We use quality, seasonal ingredients and thoughtful techniques while allowing the food to remain approachable and inviting. Whether we are preparing an intimate dinner, a family-style celebration, or a casual pizza night, our goal is always the same: food with soul, served with care, and made to be shared.
